What to Look for in Patio Furniture

It’s that time of year again. Time to bring out all your summer clothes and outdoor furniture so you can start enjoying the beautiful weather.

If you’re anything like me, you love being outside and enjoying some sun. There’s something peaceful about it that I can’t quite describe. The only thing that has made my relaxation difficult was the fact that I didn’t have comfortable outdoor furniture for my patio. My furniture was old, had lost its shape, and was just plain uncomfortable to sit or lay down in.

I searched and searched for a discount outdoor patio furniture dining set and lounge chairs, but it was overwhelming at first. I wasn’t sure what to look for when buying patio furniture. After several weeks of looking, I finally found pieces for my patio I loved but it wasn’t without its headaches.

Here’s everything you should look for when you go out to buy your new patio furniture. Hopefully, you’ll be able to avoid the same pitfalls I faced.

Quality

This is probably the main reason why my original patio set stopped working for me. It was of poor quality that couldn’t sustain the amount of use it was getting. Before you make your purchase, be sure to inspect the product from top to bottom. Look for poorly stitched material, flimsy plastic or wicker, and fabrics that feel cheap to the touch. Be sure to check out customer reviews online to see what other customers thought of the product. If the product you’re looking to purchase has poor reviews due to quality issues, don’t commit to the sale. Move on and find something else.

Comfortability

While this seems like an important thing to consider or look for when purchasing furniture, a lot of people don’t truly know how to test for this. Just because something looks comfortable, doesn’t mean it is. If you’re like me and love to use their patio furniture often, then you want to make sure you have something that is comfortable for you.

Go to the store and try out each piece of furniture in person. It’s the best way to truly know if something is uncomfortable or not. And don’t send a trusted friend to look on your behalf either. While you might trust them to make other decisions, what’s comfortable to them may not be comfortable to you.

Personal Style

While looks aren’t supposed to matter in a relationship, they definitely due when it comes to decorating. Style is a huge thing to consider when purchasing furniture. Sofas, dining sets, and other furniture pieces allow you to express yourself and show who you are.

If you don’t like your patio furniture in the store, you won’t enjoy looking at it every day no matter how cheap it was. Get something you like to look at so you feel relaxed, not tense while you’re outside on your patio.

Price

Price is a huge factor when buying new furniture, no matter where it’s going. If you buy furniture that’s over your price range, that can cause financial stress you don’t need. When it comes to patio furniture or any kind of furniture for that matter, you don’t need the most expensive option.

Price does not equal quality. Stay on budget and compare furniture in other stores. By shopping around at a few places, you’ll be sure you’re getting the best deal.

Cleaning and Care

While some people aren’t as concerned with this, if you have kids or pets, this is a huge deal. You’ll want to look for easy to clean, durable furniture that is low maintenance. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want to have to do 101 steps to keep my patio furniture clean from things like pollen, animals, and stains.

Look at the cleaning and care instructions on the label and avoid any that can’t withstand the elements or need to be washed in a certain way. These can be hard to maintain, especially if you use them a lot. For tips on how to clean your patio furniture, click here

Storage

You’ll want to think about storage space if you have kids, pets, or entertain guests frequently. There are lots of furniture options out there that have storage options built right into them. That way you’ll have a spot to store all your outdoor essentials.

Another storage problem to consider is where you’re going to store your furniture in the winter or during a massive storm, like a hurricane if you’re somewhere near the tropics. You should consider furniture that will fit easily in your shed, garage, basement, or wherever you keep your outdoor furniture. Lots of furniture folds or stacks for easier organization, but not all of them. Make sure you check that part out before you buy.
